  • Our Services

On Sunday mornings we usually have three services:

8:00 A simple 'Said' Holy Communion
9:30 A 'Sung' Holy Communion variously described as 'Classic' or 'Traditional', though certainly not stuffy
11:15 A 'Contemporary' informal service, following the pattern below:

    1st Sunday: All-age worship
    2nd Sunday: Morning Prayer
    3rd Sunday: Morning Prayer
    4th Sunday: Holy Communion
    5th Sunday: Varied

Apart from on the 1st Sunday of the month, children usually have their own activities at the 11:15 service.

On the first Sunday of the month we usually have Evensong at 18:30, though this sometimes moves by a week or two for special events like Easter, All Souls or Advent.

  • St Michael's Choir

20130828_Choir_Trip_to_Oxford_25We're not large, but we do work quite hard! We lead the singing in the 9:30 Holy Communion service every Sunday and in the 18:30 Evensong on the first Sunday of the month.

We also sing for weddings, funerals and other special services during the year – e.g. a choral setting of the Passion on Palm Sunday, Patronal Festival (St Michaels, at the end of September), Harvest Festival, Christmas Lessons and Carols, and our increasingly popular Advent Carol Service. We also include secular music in our repertoire, and for the Patronal Festival we sing at a “coffee shop” on the Saturday.

We are often invited to sing at other events outside the normal church services, including an annual visit to a local hotel on Christmas Eve to provide seasonal music for patrons.

In 2013 we visited Miesbach in Bavaria to participate in a Music festival; and whilst there we also sang during the evening service of the Catholic Mass (you can see photos here, and read a full account here.) More recently we led the singing for the weekday Eucharist in Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford (more photos here). We enjoy considerable support from the congregation and were delighted that 76 people made the trip to Oxford. St. Michael’s has a strong ecumenical tradition, and from time to time we include members from the Catholic, Methodist and Contemporary congregations.

20130828_Choir_Trip_to_Oxford_10We’d be delighted if you were to join us as a new member. We meet for practice on Friday evenings at 19:00 (7pm), and 30 minutes before service times. We don’t hold auditions as such, but we appreciate people who are prepared to make a commitment for regular attendance and are prepared to accept a challenge.
