Open the Book is a national initiative that enables children to learn and understand stories from the bible during their primary years. In Bishop's Cleeve we have 2 teams of volunteers who go every week into our local primary schools and spend time with the children. Each week they prepare and deliver a different bible story through drama, mime, storytelling and using props and costume in order to fully connect with the children.
The sessions are lively, engaging and informative, and most importantly, thoroughly enjoyed by the children. They conclude with some quiet time for reflection and prayer.
Here's what some of our local primary children had to say about their experiences with Open the Book:
The story was about God, he helped make 10 people better - God can make us better
10 people on the road - they were poorly. Jesus made them well. It was great, we counted!
The king died and the shepherd boy became king. We always need to be a good friend
God helped the sisters who were sad because their brother had died. We should help people who need help or are sad.
