We’re back! The choir trip to Miesbach in Bavaria was a great success.
Everyone arrived at the hotel on the appointed day, which considering the group travelled from two different airports and one station, on two different days, was an achievement in itself! We were also joined by Ross and Jacqui who had included visiting us in Miesbach on their holiday tour.
When we arrived at the concert hall on the Saturday morning, I think we were all dumbstruck at the size of the auditorium and the enormity of what we were about to undertake – The hall seated 450 people in the audience and we had been reliably informed it was a sell-out.
The concert went really well, after a very formal start with half an hour of speeches in 3 languages, with everyone thanking everyone else for coming! There were 5 choirs taking part – 2 German, 2 Italian and us. The standard was very high but we were well received and had very favourable feedback and compliments on our singing. Whilst each choir was on stage a picture of their home town was projected on to the backdrop behind them – we had a picture of St Michael’s Church. After the concert a lot of people asked questions about St Michael’s and our community.
On Sunday evening we sang at Miesbach Catholic church, sitting in the upper gallery, high above the congregation. The Priest asked us to sing at four points through the service and Greg played an organ voluntary after service. The acoustics in the Church were marvellous, the sound just hanging in the air as we finished. It was a wonderful experience to sing in such an environment and take part in worship in another country and another language.
Other than the music we had 3 days of unbelievable hospitality. Our hosts had arranged a walking tour of the town, a trip to a nearby village with mountains, lakes and even a cable car, and a whistle stop tour of the centre of Munich, as well as frequent trips to local restaurants!
It was all over too soon, but we all agreed the whole trip was a wonderful experience.
Watch out Miesbach – we’ll be back!

Our choir usually sing at St Michael's for the weekly 9.30 Communion and the monthly 18.30 Evensong services; and also for weddings, funerals and other special events.
